Kathmandu. 23-year-old runner Rekha Pun made history at the Kathmandu Marathon by breaking the national record.
She completed the full marathon distance (42.195 km) in just 2 hours 45 minutes 32 seconds, which is 8 minutes less than the previous national record.
"I had dreamed of this. Today that dream came true. I am extremely happy to achieve this milestone for Nepal," Rekha said after crossing the line.
The Sports Minister and National Sports Council officials congratulated her. A special award has also been announced in her honour.
Rekha is also preparing to represent Nepal at the upcoming Asian Games. Her achievement will inspire young Nepali athletes to push their limits.
More than 5,000 runners from Nepal and abroad participated in this marathon edition held in the Kathmandu valley.
